Mount Loki Summit Tag
I had tried to get up Mount Loki in Sept. three years ago but we got turned around at the ridge because of snow. This time around, the stars (or whatever) were aligned, the weather was perfect and we made a successful bid. In hindsight, I wouldn't want to do the top portion if the rocks were wet–it'd make for a nasty scramble for someone at my skill level.
Note that some Nelson lads skied the SW face a couple years back. Read about their exploits in the post, here. As you can hopefully see from the pics below, it's a very dramatic peak that offers incredible views all around: the Purcells, Rockies, Valhalla, Kootenay Lake and more. We felt pretty lucky to have made it to the tippy top. Thanks for the company and initiative Terry.
Here's the first glimpse from Portman Notch. Holy F_ck! We need to get to the top of that!!!???
A closer view. Scrambly time along the west ridge.
Here's what the ridge looked like–one of the easier stretches. Kootenay Lake way down there.
Pausing on the summit to make an entry intom the log book. Spectacular views from 9090'.
