Ascending Aemmers Couloir on the north west face of Mount Temple.  It took us a relentless 4 hours of slogging through knee and then waist deep snow from the base of the couloir to the top.  The last 50m involved delicate kick steps into a skiff of facetted snow hanging precariously to the remenants of an old glacier.  But the ascent is really what ski touring is all about isn't it?

All photos by Jerome Yearly, the only one of us who had the time to stop and look around!

The first few hundred metres were the easiest. We all stayed together.

Is the oxygen thin up here? It's never easy keeping up with the Swiss

The sting in the tail. Ice sheet at the top of the couloir
