Golden Area Update - Times Are A Changin'
This months snow conditions have proved more and more what Bob Dylan has been singing about all these years, "The times they are a changin".It's not just a change with the warmer spring temps, but many veteran snowpack studiers are seeing many firsts in the Golden area, particularly Kicking Horse. In Ryan Harvey's 15 years at the resort, he has never experienced what happened last weekend. A full depth release was triggered in the Fuez Bowl while avalanche control was bombing a separate area. So take note when heading out beyond bounds at Kicking Horse, or into the Purcells and beyond. Locals have notice some activity as well that should make you think twice about picking your rest areas:
Large cornice failed mid day on the ridge to the "wisdom tooth" triggered previous storm and stepped down 1.5m to deeper PWLs, size 3. Cornices are massive and failing daily, larger results have crossed some common regroup areas in the "slack" country.
