Elevenpine is a small Boulder, Colorado based company aiming to shake up the cycling apparel business by designing bike apparel that does double duty. Until recently if you went for a road or mountain bike ride you really couldn’t go out after for coffee or groceries with out looking like a bike nerd. No one wants to see you head to toe in spandex, but you also don’t want to ride your bike in wind flapping clothing so Elevenpine decided to do something about it. With years of combined experience designing biking apparel for other brands such as Nike, Pearl Izumi and North Face, the team assembled at Elevenpine was up to the challenge of creating functional bike clothing that also looks good off the bike.
Functional and fashionabel.
I met with founder Jeff Curran at last years Outdoor Retailer show and he wanted me to try out his products, specifically the Elevenpine Crankitup Shorts and Liberator Liners. Having worn both for almost a year now on my road and mountain bike I can whole heartedly recommend these products to you.
The Elevenpine Crankitup Shorts quickly convert from form fitting to loose and stylish with just a simple zip. It’s a simple idea that makes total sense, and the no-nonsense side zips make it all happen in seconds. Pull the side zippers down and fasten the velcro tabs and your ready for a road our mountain bike ride without the worry of baggy shorts catching on your saddle. Meeting friends after the ride, open the velcro fasteners and zip back up for more ventilation and a casual short that no one will know just did 50kms. The fabric is durable but not rigid and offers up just enough abrasion resistance and the best part is that they don’t show sweat or dirt that easily.
Zipper down for bike mode and zipper up for everything else.
The velcro fastener keeps the zipper in place and finishes off the shorts nicely.
The problem with most bike chamois shorts is that they are bike shorts. Heavy, hot and not that comfortable after 30km in the saddle. Elevenpine has designed the Liberator Liner to resolve these issues by using a lightweight 4-way stretch fabric and a built in absorbent chamois that’s not too much padding nor too little. The stitching and construction ensures there all the seams are clean and that there are no pressure points. The built in elastic in the legs has a grip material that ensure the Liberator’s won’t ride up on you as you pedal. They simply stay where you want them to stay—down. If you want the ultimate road or mountain biking kit then combine the Liberator Liner with the Crankitup Shorts. You can thank me later.
I’m a big fan of companies that produce quality products and who aren’t afraid of taking chances and this is exactly what Elevenpine has done in designing their Crankitup Shorts and Liberator Liners. I’ve got almost a full year of riding on my samples and it’s still the only thing I’ll wear on my mountain and road rides. Quality, comfort and functionality, it doesn’t get any better than that,… oh wait, more colour options would be nice.
With an upcoming spring biking trip to Fruita Colorado and Moab Utah, you can be sure my Elevenpine apparel will be coming along. Check them out at www.elevenpine.com
