Kuhl is a core mountain lifestyle brand which makes a large selection of apparel for men and women who enjoy being active outside. With a wide range of stylish tops, pants, jackets, and shorts suited to active lifestyles, Kuhl is a brand that can go from trail to table without slowing down. In this review we’ll look at three new pairs of pants and one new Kuhl short sleeve top. The Kuhl Lawless and FreeRydr pants use a durable cotton/spandex blend, while the Silencr pants are Kuhl’s latest performance softshell. Any of these can be paired with the new Tropik short sleeve shirt that’s made for summer living. Lets take a look, shall we?

Like the Kuhl Lawless pants below, the Free Rydr Pants use a 98% combed cotton, 2% spandex fabric blend. Ths creates a combed Cotton Euro Twill fabric which has been slightly brushed for a softer, stylish feel—but fear not, the tough/durability remains. An anatomically engineered fit which follows your body's natural contours combined with a taper from the knee down creates a more modern style. The Vintage Patina Dye and river wash will create a vintage look and feel over time as it wears and fades. The standard Kuhl features such as gusseted crotch, articulated knees, signature cell phone pocket and reinforced pockets and cuffs are all standard equipment on the Free Ryder pants as well.

With most of the features you’ve come to expect from Kuhl, the Lawless pants are their heaviest weight pant. They’re cut from their luxurious KnockAbout Kloth Fabric which is a combination of mostly cotton canvas with 2% of Spandex added for a natural stretch and comfort. Needless to say, these pants are built rough wear and abuse

The Kuhl Silencr pants are a full fit technical pant made with Reflex Softshell and a DWR finish to repel stains and light rains. This innovative softshell material allows for more stretch without the use of spandex and therefore recovers and retains its shape well while still providing 4-way mechanical stretch. The yarn used also absorbs less moisture and dries faster which keeps you comfortable longer.

Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
Kuhl’s new Free Ryder and Lawless Pants both use a fabric made up of 98% combed cotton and 2% spandex fabric. This provides a stylish, yet tough fabric that still has a little stretch to it. It’s ideal for casual wear around town but they also both stood up to spring hikes in the alpine. I preferred not to get them too dirty as they work so well as casual pants, day-to-day.
The Kuhl Silencr Pants, however, are the most hiking friendly of the three pants tested. Their softshell polyester fabric provides copious amounts of 4-way mechanical stretch which means freedom of movement on the hiking trail. The DWR coating on the fabric helped keep them dry in light rain while the five pockets came in handy for keeping my phone, snack and car keys handy. If you’re tired of the technical looking softshell pants that you can’t wear anywhere but the hiking trail then take a closer look at the new Silencr Pants as the fabric has a unique pattern to it which makes it more stylish.
The ideal complement to any of these pants is the Kuhl Tropik short sleeve shirt. The Airflow 100% organic cotton is ideal for hot summer days as it naturally wicks moisture away from your skin and it’s so sheer that it allows for a generous amount of airflow to keep you cool on even the hottest day. I found the Tropik not only looked good but kept me cool in summer’s heat, while it’s stylish enough that I could wear it on a hike by day and out for dinner at night.
