NOAA Releases September La Niña Update

According to NOAA’s ENSO blog entry for September 2016, it appears that conditions no longer look favourable for La Niña this winter, perhaps to the chagrin of western Canadians who have seen a cool, wet summer transition into the beginnings of a cool, wet fall.
NOAA's Emily Becker writes: “Since the demise of the big 2015-16 El Niño in April, the tropical Pacific has been loitering around in neutral… and now forecasters think it’s likely to stay that way through the winter. For now, we’re taking down the La Niña Watch”.
Of course, the million dollar question here is how does this news affect the ski season in Canada? The answer, unfortunately – or perhaps fortunately – remains “we’ll have to wait and see”. There are more factors at play here than just La Niña and the only real way to know will be to strap your skis on your feet in a few months time and have a look for yourself.
Until then, though, it’s fun to speculate.
