Backside of Half Dome- Soapbox
Skied around the backside of half dome today and for the most part could see no further than the tips of my skis. The weather was socked in and snowing S-1. Dug a hasty pit just below the Half Dome col and here is what we found.
storm snow down 10cm F to 15 4F on the crust layer that was knife. Got a SP down 55cm on a density change and some / facets. Winds were M-SW air temp -3.2 elevation 7395 incline aspect NW 29deg and time was noon.
Skied through to the col at Kuttle and back drown Scobs. The skiing was actually quite nice mid way down. Could not feel the avie debris and the crust was supportive with 10 to 20cm on top. Only the surface storm snow was sluffing.
Hope it does not warm up to high and we still are able to keep our white stuff fluffy.
Enjoy……
