Spooky!!!
Spooky might be just the best discriptor for snowpack right now. Was just on the north side of evening ridge and dug a hasty pit. Got a CTE2 down 85 cm on needle crystals over 14mm.. Again spooky! Density above was consistent with fist for new snow 17 down then 4F down to 26 and the remaining pack 1F to pencil yup some dense snow sitting on top of those needles.. Did I say yikes yet.... Anyway a 5 cm melt freeze crust showing up on the south aspects. Tests are not alway conclusive as in the same pit I got a CTM(14) on that same needles layer right on the next block.
Play safe out there and as has already been said by much more qualified person choices your terrain with care for the next while.
