Whats the goods were today around WH2O
Hello All
What a day today as Ular brought back winter to the Kootenays. We braved the parking lot at WH2O that was almost full at 9am for a one way up the King with our final destination being Black Queen. The first promising sight was an untracked line from the 62 shack, what a difference from Sunday when the same uptrack could have been a cat track for all the tourers who had headed out to the backcountry in our last two weeks of drought. The trail breaking was douable but the pack was starting to go upside down as the winds from last night blew in warm. On the ridge we dig and found what we expected touchy for the first 25cm on a defined wind slab. Temps were in the -4 cel to -1.9 cel and the winds blowing moderate to hard (right on Whitequeen) from the south. We saw lots of action on the way up and the shooting cracks from our skin track kept our attention. The ski off the BQ was great for what we have had lately, going a little heavy but face shots were had and pillow drops were soft not death defining. The ski back on the south into WH2O was nothing to write home about and not for the weak of thigh.
Well enjoy
