Outdoor Retailer Sneak Peek—Volkl VTA Skis
Volkl’s line of super lightweight VTA touring skis are ideal for those gram conscious backcountry skiers who want an uphill oriented ski that can also shred the pow on the way down. For Fall 2018, the VTA line-up will include the VTA 80, 84, 88, 98 and 108 widths. The VTA ski replaced Volkl’s Nanuq ski and is built on a lightweight multi-layer wood core with a touring optimized tip shape and carbon tip stabilizer. An “Ice.Off cap” helps prevent snow build-up on the top sheet and the subtle tip rocker helps with float in deep snow. While at the On Hill Demo last month (which was part of the Outdoor Retailer Show in Colorado) we got to ski the VTA 98’s. Since the state is powder starved and the testing involved lift served groomers we were not able to get a true sense of the VTA’s capabilities but hope to do so in a future review.
