Help Save The Lower Canyon!
Backcountry is a broad term. It has a little different meaning to everyone but most agree that the backcountry is a free and uncontrolled place. A place where you rely on your or your team's experiences to safely recreate wild terrain off the beaten path. It has always been a place to escape, push personal limits or maybe just a place for a cool selfie, it's all relative but it's truly important to all of us. Be it your local ski touring stash, scramble route, a boat put in, fishing hole or camping spot, it's available at any time and in any condition. The only limiting factor is you and your comfort level. The lower canyon put in just east of Golden, Bc was one of these backcountry havens until another limiting factor stood in the way of those wanting to recreate the area. Access to the lower canyon was closed at the traditional CP Rail crossing with locked metal gate. A literal hurdle and the risk of trespassing charges now cuts off access to the lower canyon. The Kicking Horse river is used by both recreational and commercial paddlers and while CP stated in spring of 2016 that they would work with the community to restore access the gate remains locked. The save the lower canyon movement needs your help! Sign the petition and let the government know that access to our rivers and mountains is important to us! 2 minutes of your time is all you need to give to support this cause!
