First Female Solo of the Great Himalayan Trail
After three years of obsessing and planning Canadian Michelle Marie Landry will be attempting the Great Himalayan trail in a week or so. If she's successful she will likely be the first female to complete the trail self guided and unsupported. Michelle is planning on traveling as much of the “high route” as possible excluding sections that require group travel or areas that require a guide but will hire a guide when legally required to. Her planned route will take her approximately 1200km across the entirety of Nepal's most technical passes and to some of the worlds most remote communities. Michelle's planned route will take about 100 days to complete pending any re-routing or weather delays and the planned route will take her to a maximum elevation of 6146m or over 20 000ft if you prefer. Michelle has a gofundme campaign to help cover some of the monumental costs of such an undertaking. You can support her by donating here:http://www.gofundme.com/MichelleGHT
She is also raising funds for the charity Wide Open Vistas a non-profit origination for the betterment of health and education of the children of Nepal. Learn more here: http://wideopenvistas.org/. Michelle keeps a well written travel adventure blog where she will be keeping us all informed of her trials, tribulations and success'. You can follow her here: https://moundbagger.wordpress.com/
About the Great Himilayan Trail: http://greathimalayatrails.com/
“Great Himalaya Trails (GHT) is a network of trails that makes it possible to hike in the Nepali hills and mountains from Humla and Darchula in the West to Kanchenjunga in the East. From the popular trekking areas of Everest and Annapurna to the more secluded treks in Dolpa and Makalu Barun, the GHT is the banner that covers the entire Nepali Himalayas. Along the trails, you’ll find big mountains, astounding vistas, welcoming villages and a unique personal challenge. Those who have trekked along the GHT have called it a spiritual journey.”
