Tragic week for the ski film industry
It all began in 1950 with the release of Warren Miller's Deep and Light, a ski film that would inspire more. Each year we sit patiently in theatres for screenings of the latest ski/snowboard film that will stoke our winter passion and excitement for the upcoming season. Sherpas Cinema, Sweetgrass Productions have taken ski/snowboard films beyond Warren Miller's adrenaline fueled movies and Matchstick, Absinthe and TGR continue to excite audiences. Unfortunately mistakes are made and athletes pay the ultimate price such as J.P. Auclair & Andreas Fransson did in 2014.
This week Estelle Balet & Maxim Arsenault lost their lives in avalanches filming for ski/snowboard movies. A tragic loss that weighs heavy on the hearts of the ski industry as a whole. Estelle passed away in her home country of Switzerland, and Maxim Arsenault was skiing near Haines Pass, BC close to the Yukon & Alaska border. Ironically they both had the same birthday. Thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of both talented athetes.
