Trail report: Garibaldi Lake, Whistler, June 25 2013
It's been a little under a month since my last trip up to Garibaldi Lake and the landscape has totally changed.. there is almost no more snow on the trail, the lake is ice free, and it's looking like it will be a nice long hiking season this year!
This is got to be one of the most beautiful places around Whistler.. I never get tired of coming up here. The access is pretty easy, and once you reach the alpine there's a veritable playground of mountains to be climbed, scrambled, and explored. This is the view looking across the lake to Castle Towers.
Below is Panorama Ridge.. I was a little surprised (and stoked) to see this slope almost snow free already as it's one of my favorite day trips.. it's a long day from the parking lot, just under 35km round trip and over 5000ft elevation gain (about the same distance as going to the Black Tusk and back) but absolutely stunning.
Here are the peaks of Clinker and Mt Price, also fantastic day trips, or done as part of an overnight camping trip to the lake. These two are both easy scrambles on scree, and on a nice day you'd see Mt Garibaldi just behind.
I love BC. We're so lucky.
