Handcrafted, Customized and Local... Big Bend Skis
Are you trying to decide what ski to buy this year? Have you dreamt of having custom skis built just for you, with the graphics you want, but figured it was waaay too expensive? Well Big Bend Skis may be the answer to those dreams!!
Now entering its third season, Big Bend Skis is based out of Revelstoke. Daryl Ross, the owner and head ski builder of BBS, is producing high performance, super cool skis at a price point that competes with, or beats many bigger production -only manufacturers.
BBS prides itself in producing a kickass pair of skis that have truly been handcrafted and customised to the individual skier. All Big Bend skis take the skiers height, weight, skiing style and prevailing snow conditions into consideration. YOU get to tailor the tip, waist and tail measurements as well as camber/early -rise (rocker) profiles. Every pair of skis is made of a full birch core that is individually milled, so even the flex and ski weight can be controlled. The other cool thing about BB skis is that the custom build allows the skier to choose from pretty awesome stock art work, or customize the top sheet with art of your choosing for a very minimal surcharge.
Looking for the techy talk on how and what these skis are made of? Here it is:
Big Bend skis use fast -running graphite sintered bases, beefy hardened steel edge stock and a matte finished and micro textured top sheet material (new for 2013). The wood core is surrounded by an exoskeleton of sport-specific composites including fibreglass, carbon fiber and kevlar.
BB skis has three different weights and weaves of fiberglass and uses a special mix of "in-house" epoxies to perfect resin-composite ratios and to minimize weight and customize flex patterns.
The unique birch core utilizes a cross-lamination matrix which does not rely on joining plastic to the sidewalls, allowing the skis to retain binding screws without the need for extra plates or materials, and the solid, snappy yet damp core sits right over top of the ski edge to provide great power transfer and torsional rigidity.
How do they perform? Pretty awesome! Check out their website (bigbendskis.com) for reviews from ski guides and ski bums! Customers are pretty happy….
Choosing craftsmanship over mass manufacturing with BBS, as with many other companies, allows the buyer to receive exceptional customer service and a personal approach to ski consumption that you just won't get from globalized ski production companies.
So if you still don't have this seasons skis picked out yet…. Think about buying local with Big Bend Skis!
