Pure Energy Proven; a trademark of the tried, tested, and true. Prima makes food to fuel the athlete who won't settle for second best. Using only “real foods”, they skip out on the artificial flavours in favour of the real thing. The key to their success lies not in laboratory secrets, but in the use of only real foods.
Prima real food energy bars are made by hand in North Vancouver, BC, Canada but the winning recipe comes from generations of trial and improvement. The company's founder, Dave Vukets, discovered that real foods were the key to success on the European Circuit while riding as an elite road cyclist. Tested in the streets, fields, and mountains, these bars are ready to fuel your next endeavour.
The striking package design is just the beginning for these high end energy bars.
With great flavours to choose from, you’re sure to find something that will have you coming back for more. The company promises no hype or gimmicks, just energy packed foods and simple ingredients to keep you fuelled up on your way to the top. Prima also makes a line of granola with the same ethos of using no nonsense ingredients to make nutrition the first priority with out sacrificing flavour. The granola comes in 350g bags and there are two flavours to chose from, Almond + Coconut and my personal favourite, Cinnamon + Black Current. Both flavours use certified gluten-free oats, non-GMO oils, and a touch of honey for sweetness. For $8.00 you don’t get a lot in the bag but this is a high end product with quality ingredients which comes at a premium.
Nutrition is a touchy subject, and more than ever we are bombarded with news of the latest super food or supplement. While opinions vary, it’s tough to argue with good ol’ fashioned whole foods. When checking ingredient lists, it’s awesome to find a product made solely from foods you recognize. This happens to be the case with Prima.
Each of the bar’s signature flavours comes through strongly, but none are overpowering. I find most energy bars a bit on the sweet side, so it’s refreshing to eat a Prima bars which aren’t too sweet. This is due to the fact that Prima adds no sweeteners and lets the sugars from the whole foods do what they do best. My favourite flavour is probably the ginger and pistachio, but they are all delicious!
The texture wasn’t what I’m used to, but was easy to eat and not too crunchy, but a little crunch... not too chewy, but a little chewy. Soft and not crumbly; I was pleasantly surprised. The salted cacao and peanut butter flavour was a bit drier than the other flavours, but still very manageable and tasty.
On the whole I really enjoy the flavour’s of the Prima bars and will certainly keep an eye out for them at the grocery store, as should you.
