COMP - The Happiest Valentine
We do Valentine's Day a little differently in our family. There's no candle lit dinner, no roses, and no champagne. Instead, this special day dedicated to the ones we love is a chance to skip out of work, sneak out to the ski hill and steal a few extra turns together.
This year's Valentine's Day dawned bright and sunny, making the morning at the office all the more torturous and all the less productive as I watched the clock inch its way towards noon. The bright blue sky meant it was the perfect day for a ridge walk and our little pooch's first time skiing a big bowl. We sweated up the ski hill under the closed lift, past the out-of-bounds sign, and up, up, up onto the alpine ridge that would take us to Geronimo Bowl. We stopped only once on the three-hour hike, to scarf down some heart-shaped peanut butter and honey sandwhiches.
Maya whimpered as we deskinned, knowing that the fun was about to begin and eager to start her bounding charge downhill through the powder. Tavis and Maya scoped out their line and dropped in together, him with a huge grin and her with her tongue hanging out.
Regrouping in the valley bottom, we high fived and hugged, then sat in the sun, admiring our tracks, soaking up the beautiful day, and relishing our best Valentine's day yet.
