Touring Hamilton Soap Box Comp
Since I am new to the the backcountry forum I just wanna say a quick hello to the eastern section and an envious one to the rest . I've decided to make my first post a tribute to where I learned how to ski when I was a young lad.
Chedoke Golf Course in Hamilton had a running ski hill for many years. Sadly it closed in 2003 due to a lack of ability to make money caused by the unpredictable Southern Ontario weather. The below picture is an editorial cartoon I found online about the situation.
Just a short drive within the city, I thought it was a good place to test the powder (we had an unusual amount of snow this year). To access the old hills you have to walk just a few minutes down the rail trail, pretty sure one of the runs ran over top of it because you have to pass through a steel formed tunnel. It was good hike up the hill as it has a decent vertical drop. As you can see it`s quite over grown though I wouldnt know as I was too young to ski the large hills.
We were able to do a couple of runs before the sun began to set and left me eager to find some other spots in the city to explore.
I put together a very short video of a couple of clips we were able capture.
Till next time,
Lambie
