Aftershokz Aeropex
The Aftershokz Aeropex open-ear headphones are the most advanced wireless headphones Aftershokz has ever produced. Engineered for premium sound and long-lasting battery, the Aeropex has won awards from Men’s Health and Rollingstone, and tops out the charts of many ‘best of’ comparisons. Lightweight and comfortable, one could even forget they were wearing the Aeropex headphones, especially because their open-ear design allows you to hear your surroundings clearly. This open-ear design means you can stay aware of your surroundings without sacrificing sound quality.
With up to 8 hours of battery life, the Aeropex wireless headphones are the perfect gift for the endurance athlete. Moisture detection will alert you to when it’s not safe to charge, and a magnetic charging connector means there’s zero fuss in connecting the Aeropex to power. PremiumPitch 2.0+ offers powerful bass and higher volumes while Bluetooth 5.0 allows for reliable connectivity up to 10m (33ft).
An IP67 rating means the Aeropex are sweatproof and waterproof so you need not worry about intense workouts or inclement weather (that said, these are not intended for swimming). A full wrap-around band keeps them secure on your head so they do not bounce or move around while running or working out.
Two buttons allow for a number of ways for you to control music and calls. You can adjust volume, pause/play, mute, skip song, back to previous song, change eq, answer a call, reject a call, end a call, answer call waiting and hang up on current call, redial last number, check battery level, and prompt voice assistant on your device. The Duel Noise-Canceling Mic offers clear communication to both your device assistant and for calls.

Outdoor Research Skytour AscentShell Jacket and Bib
Outdoor Research is calling the Skytour AscentShell jacket and bib the most comfortable shells ever. The claim is due to AscentShell technology, a lightweight, breathable, waterproof, stretchy material designed for the backcountry. The 3 layer AscentShell fabric is exclusive to OR and pushes boundaries in the realm of waterproof, breathable fabrics with next-level breathability and added stretch. The AscentShell is lightweight, quiet, and soft to the touch resulting in a feel that is more similar to a softshell while still performing like a hard shell.
The Skytour AscentShell Jacket is loaded with all the features one might expect from a premium ski jacket. The helmet-compatible hood is fully adjustable and features a wire brim and HoodLock tech so you can capture the excess material when your helmet is removed. A brushed tricot chin guard offers a soft feel for your face and adjustable wrist cuffs and an elastic drawcord hem allow you to control the fit and feel around the wrists and waist. Pit zips facilitate venting under the arms.
A forearm ski pass pocket offers a key clip while two chest pockets and two hand pockets offer ample exterior storage options. On the interior, a chest pocket offers a media port and a large internal mesh pocket offers a spot for larger items.
The bibs feature a hybrid mapped construction, articulated knees, and gusseted crutch for an ergonomic, natural fit. A swing hatch allows one to answer the call of nature without having to completely disrobe. Adjustable suspenders ensure the correct fit and the zippered outer thigh vents facilitate climate control. Stretch mesh internal gaiters feature a power strap slot, and reinforced scuff guards ensure durability.
The softshell bib upper offers a left-side zip pocket with a secure avalanche beacon clip as well as a top entry stash pocket on the other side. Large side-set cargo pockets offer additional storage at the thigh.

Julbo Aerospace Goggle
The Julbo Aerospace Goggle is the first goggle designed for the climb as well as the descent. Featuring the SuperFlow System, the lens is able to edge forward so that it creates a gap between the lens and frame resulting in greater ventilation while still remaining protected from the sun’s rays. The frame also features venting to prevent fogging, and similarly, the lens itself has additional ventilation. Combine all this with an anti-fog coating on the inner surface of the lens and it seems hard to imagine foggles ever being a worry again.
Small cuts on the frame offer increased flexibility and therefore a more anatomic fit. Two layers of foam in between the frame and your face make for a comfortable fit as well as offering some shock absorption, and a soft-touch layer against the skin ensures comfort. The minimalist frame offers the greatest field of vision possible, and the strap is lined with a silicone strip so that the Aerospace goggles don’t slip around when you’re sending it.
Aerospace is available with all of the Reactive photochromic technical lenses. These lenses are the most advanced that Julbo has to offer, instantly adapting to all weather conditions. Each of the ultra-lightweight lenses offers unique benefits, but we’ll offer the specifics for the Reactive Category 1-3 lens below.

Their easily interchangeable toric with Clarity technology lenses have an exceptionally wide field of view making the Zonula Goggles the right choice for any conditions from resort, to race and backcountry. The built-in soft frame outriggers make the goggles easy to handle without touching the lenses and allow the lenses to be changed simply by squeezing the outriggers. A second Anti-Fog / Anti-Scratch lens is provided so you have one for any light condition. A thoughtful and generous gift for the skier on your holiday list.

Giro Orbit MIPS Helmet
The Giro Orbit Spherical MIPS Helmet is a futuristic, all-in-one helmet. The Vivid shield replaces goggles with a seamlessly integrated articulated lens. The Vivid lens was developed in partnership with Zeiss Optics and improves contrast and definition by manipulating blue light while also blocking harmful UV light. The lens is engineered to fit perfectly to your face and will prevent wind and snow from entering the helmet. Stack Vent technology is designed to eliminate fogging and the articulation allows the Vivid shield to easily pull out and over the helmet, and then back down again.
While the Vivid shield steals the show in terms of talking points, the Giro Orbit Spherical MIPS helmet is stacked with other great features. Spherical Technology’s Ball-and-Socket design, powered by MIPS, works by allowing the outer liner to rotate around the inner liner, effectively redirecting impact forces during a crash. Hybrid Construction merges a durable ventilated hard shell upper with an in-mold construction lower shell and features sidewalls for added protection and style. Hybrid Construction also features an impact-absorbing EPS foam liner and the result of all this tech is a durable, lightweight helmet that is on the leading edge of safety.
Okay, so what about ventilation? Thermostat Control Adjustable Venting allows for custom tuning of airflow with a low profile control on the outside of the helmet. This combined with Stack Vent means no fogging and quick, easy climate control for your noggin. Polartec Powergrid padding keeps things soft and cozy while the In Form 2 Fit system allows you to micro-adjust the fit with a low profile dial so that the Orbit Spherical helmet stays snug.
All this tech means this is the perfect gift for anyone who has been struggling with goggle inserts, contact lenses, or wearing glasses under their goggles. While the Orbit Spherical helmet will offer those people increased comfort on the mountain, it's an equally great choice for anyone who wants a futuristic, seamless look paired with excellent safety features and overall functionality.

MSR Titan 2 Pot Set
If you are like me and have a titanium fetish, the Titan 2 Pot Set is probably already in your gear room. Titanium boils water really quickly, is super light and very durable. It also, somehow, isn't as hot to the touch as stainless steel or aluminium immediately after use. These pots are ideal for bike packing or any fast and light mission where rehydratable/boil-in-a-bag meals are on the menu. I also chuck one on my bag just to have as a back-up or something I use to boil water of coffee/tea/miso. They're a little spendy so some folks might not want to spend the cash on the set for themselves... Solve the problem if you buy it for them.

With a 120 Flex they are stiff enough to provide maximum performance on the downhill and by removing the tongue you get a huge range of motion in walk mode for the way up. Built on a 102mm last these boots are plenty roomy especially in the toe box and the Pro Tour Liners are comfortable and supportive since they are Intuitions. The shells are made from a lightweight Grilamid plastic and have a higher cuff which is more supportive, yet the three piece Evolution Pro Tour Shell provide a wide range of motion in walk mode thanks to this innovative design and the simple to use walk mechanism. This is a boot for those hard charging skiers who don’t slow things down just because they are out of bounds and ripping in the backcountry. Comfort, ease of use, and a sturdy design are what make the Full Tilt Ascendant SC Ski Boots stand out above their competitors.
- Evolution Pro Tour Shell:
The Evolution Pro Tour offers a smooth stride and articulated purchase in any situation. Walk farther and more comfortably than ever before. Featuring a higher back cuff and lightweight Grilamid plastic. - Grip Walk Outsole:
Designed for a better purchase on unstable & slippery terrain. The convex shape and ribbed tread add both comfort & grip for scrambling rocky peaks and negotiating slipper lodge stairs alike. - J-Bar:
An additional j-shaped piece of foam is inserted internally on both sides of the ankle area to dramatically increase ankle hold down, to keep your feet perfectly in place for precise control. - Tour Hook:
Keep your buckles in place without impinging upon the full cuff rotation. - Walk Mode:
Flip the lever up to ascend with ease. And when it’s time to send it, flip the lever down, lock the cuff in place, and push into the fluid, progressive flex you’ve come to expect from Full Tilt. - Pro Tour Liner:
With a Tour Flex Notch, removable external J-Bars, lacing system, and power strap, The Tour Pro makes walking a blister-free experience in an enveloping, snug fit. These liners use an authentic Intuition closed-cell foam which is body heat activated to mold 100% to your feet and shells during use, or can be instantly heat molded by a shop in minutes for a light, warm and super comfortable fit. - Ribbed Tongue:
100% Ribbed tongue enables smoother, more natural linear flex from your shin to your toe. The tongue bends like a flexible straw, never bottoming out while providing smooth rebound. - Tech Fittings:
Compatible with all pin-tech bindings, the in-molded tech fittings mean you can ski the resort or the backcountry.

Giro Contour RS Goggles
Giro’s new Contour RS Goggles came about from their popular Contour Goggles but is in a ‘reduced size’ which reflects the RS in the name. This slightly smaller version of the Contour has a redefined silhouette and is made for skiers and riders with a smaller face but that still want the sleek and simple frameless design of the Contour Goggles. This frameless design is not only striking to look but allows you to ‘see more with less’ as Giro says. The VIVID lenses with Optics by ZEISS, allows you to see all the features on the mountain with clarity while the quick-change magnetic-assisted lens system means more time riding and less time fussing with gear.
The EVAK vent system virtually elimiates fogging, and a bonus low-light VIVID infrared lens ensures you are ready no matter what the conditions are.
- Expansive View Technology serves up unparalleled peripheral vision
- Quick Change Lens System
- Torie Vivd Lenses with optics by Zeiss

GoPro Hero 10 Black
The big news with the new GoPro Hero 10 Black is the all-new GP2 processor which makes this the most powerful GoPro ever and all of the new and/or improved features have to do with faster speeds and improved responsiveness thanks to this new chip. There are new higher video frame rates, you can now shoot 5.3k60 and 4k120 video, previously this was 5k30 and 4k60. On the photo side you can now capture 23MP in all photo modes, previously this was only available in Raw mode. You will also get Hypersmooth 4.0 Video stabilization and enhanced performance in low light conditions which means reduced noise is evident in the videos.
The GoPro Hero 10 Black is also now Cloud Connected which means that the moment you charge it, your footage is automatically uploaded to the cloud. Of course you can also taster your footage and photos via USB wired downloads and by wifi which is now 30% faster.
Not only is the video capture frame rate faster, but so to is the front screen frame rate which was 3-5 FPS and now matches the recording frame rate so it’s super smooth. It also has a new hydrophobic coating on this front lens so water droplets roll right off the lens and won’t interfere with your photo and video capture quality. The touchscreen on the back of the GoPro Hero 10 Black is also much more responsive thanks again to the faster processor, so no more lag or annoying hanging. And, if you want to capture stills from your video footage you can now do that with 19.6MP of resolution. This means you no longer have to choose between shooting video for photos, simple shoot a video and then select the stills you want from that footage.
Another big update along side the new GoPro Hero 10 is a new battery called the Enduro, and for good reason. This new Enduro uses a revolutionary technology that dramatically improves your GoPro’s performance in cold temperatures while also significantly extending recording times in moderate temperatures. With the new GoPro Hero 10, the Enduro Battery has been tested to provide 56 minutes of 5.3K60 video, 50 minutes of 4K120 video, 76 minutes of 4K60 video and 115 minutes of 1080p30 video recording at -10°C / 14°F. That’s the battery temperature and not the ambient air so this is quite impressive. This new Enduro Battery will be available for purchase in late November and we feel it’s going to be a game changer for all those who shoot video in the cold of winter.
We here at Backcountry Skiing Canada shoot all of our Avalanche Condition Reports and Gear Reviews are shot with a GoPro and we’re looking forward to using the new GoPro Hero 10 Black.
