Sneak peek at next year’s gear: Garmin Fenix 5

Garmin has long been at the top of the list when it comes to GPS watches, but this spring they have upped the ante considerably with the release of the Fenix 5. Garmin skipped the Fenix 4 all together and went straight to the Fenix 5 watch will be available in three flavours, the Fenix 5, Fenix 5S and Fenix 5X. The Fenix 5S is a smaller version of the base Fenix 5 and is aptly suited towards women. The Fenix 5X has built in maps which is super useful for any adventurer. There is also more colours on the display, the built in heart rate monitor is smaller and of course there is built in wifi for the X version.

      Garmin Fenix 5

All of the Fenix 5 watches have ‘Quick Fit Bands’ so you can easily switch out your band for another style based on the outing, your style or your mood. The overall size of the Fenix 5 watches is now smaller than the previous Fenix 3 watch which we reviewed here. The Fenix 3 was awarded our prestigious Gear of the Year Award so we have high hopes for how the Fenix 5 will perform in the field. Stay tuned for that review this spring as our Fenix 5 watch is due to arrive any day now.
