Sneak peek at next year’s gear: Mountain Hub and the Avatech Scope Pole
New for this year, Avantech’s mobile sharing platform for avalanche information has now become Mountain Hub. It’s no longer limited to just winter weather and avalanche observations but now includes summer observations for wildlife, trail conditions, points of interest, weather, wildlife, hazards, trip reports and more.
In addition to the re-branded app and expanded capabilities, Avatech will be launching their Scope Poles which are a miniature version of their SP1 and SP2 smart probes. The Scope pole has integrated snowpack structure measurement technology safely stowed inside so that when you want to learn more about the snow pack you simply remove the probe (it automatically turns on) and then force the probe into the snow. The Scope Pole automatically samples the snowpack’s hardness and depth and prepares a graph which is output to your smart phone. GPS is also used to determine your location, slope angle, and aspect. Once you open the data in Mountain Hub on your smart phone you can add textual layers over the data to tag items of interest. The information is then shared with the Mountain Hub community as soon as you are back within cell range. Mountain Hub is available for both recreational or profession users and is an excellent resource for sharing pertinent information about backcountry adventures.
