Plum Stopper Light Brakes
Last winter we awarded the Plum OAZO Bindings our prestigious Gear of the Year Award (read that review here) and in the spring of that same year, Plum released the Plum Stopper Light Brakes. This combo is one of the best alpine touring (AT) bindings you can buy in our opinion so we wanted to let you know all about it in this post.
The Plum OAZO Bindings weigh only 400g/14.1oz, making them the lightest AT bindings we’ve reviewed to date. The bindings come with leashes and not brakes so if you add in the Plum Stopper Light Brakes at 140g per pair then the total package weighs in at 540 grams, which is still well below most other AT bindings.
You can see how easy to use the Plum Stopper Light Brakes are to use in the video below and one of the best features is that you don’t have to unmount the bindings in order to remove the brakes so you can go ultra-light if you enter a skimo race or have a big ski traverse in the works. We received a pre-production pair of the Plum Stopper Light Brakes last spring and put in a bunch of tours on them and were thoroughly impressed, so much so that they are now our go to AT binding & brake setup on the super fat and light Dynafit Free 107 Skis.
Combined the Plum OAZO Bindings & Stopper Light Brakes cost $778CAN, but for that price, you get a binding made out of Aluminum 7075 which is shaped out of a single piece with hardened steel front inserts. The toe piece DIN is set to 8 and the heel piece lateral DIN is adjustable between 4 to 10. There are two riser positions of 41mm and 54mm along with a flat 0mm position. The Plum OAZO Bindings are designed for advanced skiers weighing 35-100kg and have a 25mm boot sole length adjustment. Like the bindings, the Plum Stopper Light Brakes are made tough and come with a 3-year warranty.
Below you can see the Plum Stopper Light Brakes in the deployed and stowed positions.
Just so you know, it is pronounced ‘Plume’ and not ‘Plum’—Plum means feather in French since they are light as a feather and OAZO is a unique spelling of ‘oiseau’ or bird in French.
If you are in the market for super lightweight AT bindings then you should consider the Plum OAZO Bindings, especially now since the Plum Stopper Light Brakes are available as they make one hell of a great AT combo.
