NEW BCA BC Link Two Way Radio from the 2013 SIA Show - VIDEO
BCA has some big news coming out of this years SIA show, their industry leading transceiver has seen major improvements and is now called the the BCA Tracker 3. More on that in a few days, first some news about a new product for BCA the BCA BC Link Two way radio - by the way the "BC" stands for backcountry.
Now you may be saying to your self "what could BCA possibly do to improve upon a two way radio?" Well, they have taken all of controls and made them more accessible on the remote "smart mic" so the radio now stays in your pack where it is safe and sound. Most BCA packs will also now include a purpose built radio pocket to accommodate the BCA BC Link Radio. By keeping the controls accessible and the radio itself safe BCA says group communications will improve and you will actually use the radio more. Having just started carrying a radio for my personal ski tours I can attest to their usefulness in keeping groups together in the trees and communicating up and down a slope, being able to talk about conditions and routes as we ski down is incredibly important.
BCA has basically dummed down the two way radio so that the average user is not intimidated by using a two way radio. They have removed all those features that are more advanced and not really needed for the average user. KISS = Keep it simple stupid.
The human factor and group communications is said to be the new frontier of snow safety, after all if we talk more we can avoid getting caught in an avalanche in the first place!
