50 Degrees North- A Ski Mountaineering Short
If you are in my circle then you know I have done nothing but groan about having to ski more deep pow in the trees. I am tired of skiing pillows and glades, there, I said it. Put your pitchforks and torches down, I still end up enjoying every single day and manage to get out of bed for yet another, sigh, a day of skiing deep pow but spring is fully on my mind. Every day I pore over guidebooks, maps, google earth and the deep dark pit of information and stoke known as the internet. Luckily for those reading this, I won't go into my very average ski mountaineering plans but rather I'll share the incredible pieces of motivation I find along the way.50 Degree North is a full-on ski mountaineering flick. Lot's of ropes, no fall zones and ice. While most of us watch a movie like that and think " well that's too advanced or risky for me " I see it as motivation. I tend to scale down these huge objectives and lines into things that are applicable to my skill set and risk tolerance. How can I include small pitches of ice or a short rappel into my skiing objectives? Anyways, blah blah blah here's the flick. Spring is almost here!
