PREPARING A BACKCOUNTRY REPAIR & FIRST AID KIT WITH BCA
Until recently, the few items I carried in my touring repair kit had never actually seen any action. It was during our last big venture into the mountains on a ski traverse that all those things were finally put to use. Over 5 days, we encountered a broken pole, broken bindings, busted backpack buckles, countless changeovers with failing skins, mild injuries, damp firewood, unpredictable weather and big changes to snowpack condition. Along with the tools and materials we used to fix our broken equipment, our team’s inReach was our line to staying updated on the rapidly changing conditions around us.
Check out BCA’s new videos on preparing a backcountry repair kit and backcountry first aid kit. There is something to learn for everyone... Like maybe next time I’ll pack a pole splint and save one of us from having to rely on a noodle-y zombie pole held together by a gnarled stick and 3 ski straps. It worked, but was it ideal?
