The Chic Chocs: The Next It Spot?
I don’t remember when or how I first heard of the Chic Chocs on the Gaspé Peninsula in Quebec but I’ve always been intrigued about visiting there, especially during the winter months when the backcountry ski season is in full swing. I have a friend from Montreal who now lives on the West Coast and he told me a story about visiting his Grandma there on a whirlwind 28 hour trip from Montreal over Christmas one year. Another Quebecois transplant friend of mine has skied there a few times but other than that I don’t know anyone else who has been there. It’s remote for sure and that’s the allure for me. The closest major city is Quebec City and that’s a 5 hour drive away, in good weather. Factor in another hour or so if the roads are icy. The terrain looks great and snow seems consistent.Backcountry Skiing Canada has a nice guide to the Chic Chocs.
