Frisby Ridge Now Open After Two Year Hiatus
If you have made to the hallowed internet grounds of Backcountry Skiing Canada then you are familiar with Revelstoke and its reputation for deep snow, steep terrain and knock your socks off backcountry offerings. Depending on your circle and summer hobbies you may or may not know that Revelstoke is a full on bike town in the summer. With ridiculous downhill trails, a large network of XC trails and some of the most spectacular alpine single track in the province. On August 1st the delayed opening of Frisby Ridge has finally come to an end. The trail was closed the entire summer of 2016 for some much-needed maintenance and is finally in tip top shape for those looking to ride this epic. The delayed opening was due to a deeper than average snowpack so keep this in mind if you venture up there in the next few weeks. If it's too wet to ride without causing damage please turn around and save it for another, drier time.
A couple things to keep in mind from the Revelstoke Cycling Association.
A few points to make your day more enjoyable and safe:
• This trail is in a caribou closure area and is not open until July 15 of each year.
• This is a remote alpine trail so come prepared for flat tires, bike problems, and possible wet cold weather.
• You are in bear and bug country so come prepared for both.
• There is no drinking water on the trail so bring lots.
• Remember that uphill riders have the right-of-way so be courteous and descend with caution.
• When on the trail observe good etiquette and do not ride around mud and damage vegetation. Please stay on the trail, keep singletrack single.
• This is an alpine trail so it is prone to damage easily. Please use your judgment when deciding whether or not to ride the trail, if it is rainy and wet give the trail a few days to dry out.
