Fire Season! A Reminder
It's easy to forget how we as individuals can have a massive impact on our landscape. Currently, a wildfire is burning five kilometers east of Tete Jaune Cache just outside of Valemount, BC. This area borders Mt Robson Provincial park and with the fire growing to 15 hectares, it's starting to make some a little nervous. While wildfires are a part of nature's life cycle it's important to consider the damages human-caused fires tend to cause due to their proximity to infrastructure or commonly recreated areas. It's always important to consider a few things before lighting a campfire. Location, wildfire risk and most importantly is your fire necessary? One careless group can have an impact on an area for decades so it's important to ensure that our campfire is good and dead before leaving it. The general rule is to soak it, stir it and soak it again. Repeat as needed until there is no smoke or heat being emitted from your fire. Take the time to do it right and be sure to remind friends and family about fire safety, your favorite trail or park could depend on it.
