Forecaster's Blog and the changing snowpack
Our current winter season has given us plenty of cold snow, followed by cool, clear periods and a generally straightforward snowpack. Periods of poor stability have been shortlived and the potential for large destructive avalanches has been reasonably small. In a recent morning meeting, I've heard the term the " Ides Of March " from an experienced ski guide. Meaning that events we noticed earlier on this season and filed for the future should spring to mind now before the shift in the snowpack happens. The snowpack is changing and it's best to give thought sooner rather than later.
The forecasters at Avalanche Canada have just produced a blog post that everyone really needs to read. Especially those who recreate the backcountry often, it's easy to experience a certain level of complacency despite our best efforts not to. Please read through, share and have a safe rest of the season.
