Gnarly Creatine for optimal brain function & more
Creatine has been proven to provide many health benefits including, improving endurance accumulation in muscles, reducing the risk of injury risk, improving post-exercise recovery by accelerating glycogen replenishment and reducing inflammatory markers and enhancing cognitive function and focus.Creatine is actually an amino acid naturally produced in the body and primarily located in the skeletal muscle with small amounts also found in the brain and testes. The liver and kidneys make about half of the creatine our body needs, with the other half obtained from our diet, which is primarily found in meat and seafood. Most of the creatine in our muscles is in the form of phosphocreatine, which plays an important role in maintaining energy availability (helping our bodies make ATP), especially during high-intensity, short-duration activities or repeated bouts of exercise with short rests like resistance training and stop-go sports. This is known as the phosphocreatine system. It also plays an antioxidant role by reducing the formation of reactive oxygen species (free radicals) and increases the anaerobic threshold via creatine-phosphocreatine buffering, which may benefit endurance-focused athletes. These pivotal roles may explain why supplementation may be so beneficial for athletes. Creatine is a peptide (a short string of amino acids) that every human produces on their own. This molecule is part of our body’s energy systems: it combines with a molecule of phosphate to form creatine phosphate, which can be broken back apart to regenerate ATP – the “energy currency” of the body.
The creatine powder I have been taking is made by Gnarly and contains only Creapure which is regarded to be of the highest quality and is the most widely studied form of creatine. Gnarly Creatine is vegan, IFS FOOD certified and both Kosher and Halal certified. It is unflavoured and mixes well with a smoothy or shake which is how I blend it but since it has no flavour you can simply add it to a glass of water as well if you like. I take one 8 oz scoop each day either 30 minutes before exercise or immediately after, typically blended with a scoop of Gnarly Vegan Protein and a banana or mix it in with my morning Gnarly Performance Greens.
Gnarly Creatine is both NSF Content Certified and NSF for Sport Certified. NSF Content Certified Products go through a toxicology review, label claim testing and contaminant testing for heavy metals, microbes and pesticides. NSF for Sport Certified Products must pass NSF Content Certification and are additionally tested for over 270 substances that are banned by professional sports leagues as well as national and international doping oversight organizations.
If you are looking to enhance your workouts or simply recover faster then you might want to give creatine a try and I can’t recommend Gnarly Creatine enough.
