Gold of all kinds in Kyrgyzstan
While some feel the need to dig holes in mountains in order to extract resources, others dig no further than the snow on the surface. The latter seek not the fortune promised by precious metals, but signs of stability that will allow them to enjoy the white gold which lies on those same steep mountain slopes.A team of 5 individuals, consisting of skiers, snowboarders, and filmmakers, fall into the latter category. They found themselves in the Ak-Shirak mountains that lie in Kyrgyzstan near the Chinese border, and despite the active gold mine and ensuing difficulties with permits, they managed to get a taste of the gold they were after. Did I mention they made a film about it? Check out the trailer below.
The film begins premiering at the end of the month, but if you need a little more to tide you over be sure to check out the story by Mitch Toelderer and Michi Trjoer.
