PSA Wax Your Skins
It might be easier on the soul to be riding your bike this time of year but there is plenty of ski mountaineering season left. An early wake up can have you looking back at your big line well before lunch. The spring mantra is easy. Start early and end early. Good firm travel in the am and great corn skiing as the day progresses is nearly as good as skiing powder ( maybe ) but the pay off to obnoxious start times is predictable stability. Then there are those magical days where late spring snow brings spring stability and powder skiing. This is the holy grail but if your skins get wet and your skinning in cold snow the snow glop can turn a fun day into a hip flexor destroying day. However, if you do a little prep work this can easily be prevented. Hot waxing your skins will help keep your skins dry and isn't as scary or time-consuming as most might think. The 15 minutes you spend waxing will be made up exponentially on the skin track and you'll probably have more fun too. The guys at Skiuphill.ca have put together an informative how-to video which is posted below. Happy corn harvest!
