Rescue on Joffre Peak
We’ve posted a few of The Fifty videos in the past few weeks. As far as ski videos go I’d rank them up there as some of the most interesting. What I appreciated most is Cody Townsend’s honest and humble approach to skiing some pretty rowdy lines on some big mountains. If anyone watched the Joffre Peak video you will have seen an incident where Cody and Tobin Seagel ended up having to help rescue a solo skier who had fallen in the Central Couloir, a line they had looked at the day previous and turned away from.Cody subsequently put out a bonus video to the Joffre edition which documents the rescue as it unfolds.
It’s intense and worth watching as a reminder that no matter how well prepared your group may be you may still end up having to rescue others. The efficiency by which Cody and Tobin handled this scenario could not have been better and after watching this I’ve realized I need be better prepared with an emergency plan each and every time I head out into the backcountry, not only in case I have to help rescue my party but in case I have to help out others.
Have a watch below and tell us if you’ve ever been involved in a rescue in the comments.
