Enjoy.Simply
We all have a strong need to progress. Sometimes we want to ski a bigger line, climb a harder route or run farther. Sometimes we progress in our careers, buy more equipment for specific uses or the need to upgrade gear for more features or modern materials. At the end of the day, all the clutter and complication of learning new equipment, trails and errors can sometimes taint the experience.
I am a big advocate of keeping things simple. A great example of timeless simplicity can be found in fly fishing. Watch A film about Pesca Alla Valsesiana, similar to the growing trend in the west of the Japanese style of Tenkara fly fishing. Keep it simple, enjoy the experience, not the equipment.
