Backcountry skiing tip #102 - Keeping your skin glue working
The last thing you want while out in the mountains ski touring is to have your climbing skins fail. Trust me, it's happened to me several times while testing various new climbing skins,... it sucks. To avoid this problem the solution is easy, simply keep them warm. This allows the snow to melt and the glue to retain its adhesive properties. It's particularly important on colder days when the temperature falls below -10°C. As soon as you remove your climbing skins from your skis be sure to get them inside your jacket to start warming them up, sure, it may feel a little cold against your base layer but it sure beats having to hobble out of the backcountry due to glue failure. For other backcountry skiing tips and gear reviews check out our Youtube channel and be sure to subscribe.
