The Dream Line Has Been Skied.
The Dream Line has been conquered! It’s been quite a season for first ski descents. Earlier this summer Polish ski mountaineer Andrzej Bargiel managed to climb and ski K2 on his second attempt. Now, American ski mountaineers Hillary Nelson and Jim Morrison have become the first to climb and ski the Lhotse Couloir, also known as The Dream Line.
The Lhotse Couloir drops off the top of Lhotse, the fourth highest mountain in the world, with a descent of 1400 meters in length and 700 meters of vertical before spitting out onto The Wester Cwm. The average incline is 45-50 degrees. It’s your standard no fall zone skiing but then throw in oxygen deprivation because Lhotse stands at 8516 meters. It’s not surprising it’s taken this long to be skied.
Hopefully we’ll have some video footage out soon that documents this impressive feat.
