Losses to the Alpine Community
More unfortunate news this week regarding the climbing accident at Howse Peak. The alpine climbing community lost three of it's most elite. The three climbers killed in Banff were all North Face athletes who had accomplished incredible feats during their careers. Jesse Roskelley made a first accent of the entire South Ridge of Alaska's Mt. Huntington in 2017. David Lama is best known for freeing the Compressor Route in Patagonia, but has accomplished dozens of impressive feats all around the world, including winning bouldering world cups and climbing with Conrad Anker. Hansjorg Auer was an incredibly accomplished Austrian climber and freesoloist, soloing The Fish Route (7b+/5.12c, 850m) in Italy, arguable the most impressive big wall solo before Alex Honnold's accent of El Cap.(David Lama in Austria, 2018 / photo credit Rock and Ice Magazine)
This comes on the heals of the loss of Dave Treadway on April 13, who passed in a crevasse fall outside of Pemberton. Below is a link for a fundraiser for Dave's family, please have a look and give if you can. Dave is survived by his wife and two young children.
