Rogers Pass Conditions 2018/02/21
I was out skiing the Hermit area today and thought I would pass along a little information about the current ski conditions. While the danger rating is slowly creeping its way into the moderate range there is still a widespread windslab problem that exists. This is the primary reason we turned away from our primary objective of the day but a close second was the ski quality.Above 2100m the winds have been moving and pressing snow into a mix of breakable wind crust to hard drum like windslab. Making any turns in the alpine was tricky at best but we did find better snow in protected tree line features and consistently good snow below treeline. So if you are heading out to Rogers Pass for the weekend it might be best to tailor your expectations until we can get a refresh! Regardless of the ski quality, we were rewarded with excellent views and great day outside.
