Recent Rescues in the Kicking Horse SlackCountry
A couple of important updates from the Golden and District Search and Rescue about several incidents on the Repeater Ridge, which is a popular Kicking Horse Slack Country Destination. Luckily there were no serious injuries, but each group was well equipped and a great reminder of the reasons we prepare for any time spent in the back country. On Monday, February 20th 2 reports of skier triggered avalanches on Repeater Ridge came in at the same time. One on the south aspect, size 3 and one on the north east aspect, size 2.5. After making contact with both parties, only one person was in need of evacuation and medical attention for relatively minor injuries.
SAR techs assessed the scene and decided that the overhead hazard remained too great to land on site so a long line rescue was executed for the injured subject. The rest of the party skied out and met their friend at the base of the near by ski hill and took him from there to the Golden Hospital.
Great work to both parties for having appropriate communication devices and reporting their incidents.
