Sixty Meters to Anywhere – Brandon Leonard
This is one of the best autobiographies I have read in a while. Brandon Leonard, creator of Semi-Rad.com, tells his life story beginning with the adolescent alcohol abuse that had him facing a second DUI and jail time, to life as a recovering alcoholic while unveiling an affection for the outdoors. As an accomplished blogger and journalist writing for Backpacker, National Geographic Adventure, Outside, Men’s Journal, and the list goes on, Leonard’s memoir is an easy and interesting read. I sympathize with Leonard’s battle with alcoholism and finding an outlet or salvation in something that excites you. Although this book had me craving cigarettes at times (Leonard was an avid smoker) I enjoyed the stories about the first time hiking in the mountains and discovering his passion for the mountains. Not to give anything away, the 60 Meters refers to the length of climbing rope that can get you somewhere, anywhere really, that you want to be.
