A WINTER THANK YOU
Today marks the closing day of Whitewater Ski Resort, our local hill in Nelson BC. What a wild ride it’s been, in yet another season of dumps and droughts!
As the winter wraps up (or at least begins to winds down) for many of us, it’s important to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of so many individuals both on and off the ski hill that have played a part in us getting out to enjoy the white stuff.
Through an ever-changing platform of COVID-19 regulations, teams of people across the province have pushed onward to continue delivering public avalanche bulletins, instructional courses, guided tours and hospitality. Many resorts and ski hills have had to cut corners, incentivize new hires, and run with less staff — this year more so than ever. The lifties, cat operators, indoor lodge staff, ski shop employees, Ski Patrollers/forecasters and mechanics have worked hard to make this winter happen.
Let’s not also forget the nurses, surgeons, paramedics, and Search and Rescue volunteers that you may or may not have crossed paths with over the last months. Many are lucky to have not, however I’m no stranger to the KLH emergency room... In the Nelson area specifically, we also saw our fair share of large avalanches requiring coordinated inter-agency response.
Thank you!
Let’s enjoy the last days of resort shredding, plan our spring missions, and dust off the bikes! Yeeeewwww!!
