Ski Season is On - For Some
I don’t know about everyone else but right now I am enjoying the autumn sunshine and warmth we are experiencing in the Kootenays right now. After a rather hot July and a smoky August I feel we are deserving of this extended dry spell. The dirt is tacky and temperatures are perfect for mountain biking.Having said that, I am looking forward to winter although I’m not sure if I want to be making turns quite this early like they did this past weekend at Wolf Creek Ski Area in Colorado. I’ve always felt that opening this early is a contrived event; it’s more a marketing and publicity stunt rather than an actual opening for the sake of great skiing. Nevertheless, this year’s mid-October opening saw three lifts open after a 30 inch snowfall and it didn’t even look like white ribbon of death skiing that is common for early season conditions.
