Behind the Scenes with Sweetgrass Productions - VIDEO
Remember that psychedelic night segment in the Sweetgrass Productions film Valhalla? The fireworks, the trippy editing, the skiers charging blower pow in the pitch dark? It was a spectacle, to say the least. Now, thanks to the folks at Sweetgrass, in partnership with Powder TV, we can have a look behind the scenes to see exactly what went into the making of that segment.
Shot at Golden Alpine Holidays near (wait for it) Golden, BC and the backcountry surrounding Nelson's Whitewater ski resort, this beautiful bit of cinematography has a distinctly local flair. Add in the human powered ethos of the whole production crew – right down to hauling a generator up Whitewater on a backboard – and this segment is something we backcountry skiing aficionados can really get behind.
It's always fun to marvel at the effort and expense which goes into documenting our sport. The thing that might stand out most for me is the flying of 800 lbs of fireworks by helicopter into a remote backcountry lodge. Nobody light a match!
