The Dirt Bag Diaries
I often wonder if the world, in general, is getting worse. I am undecided if I am simply paying more attention to politics, environmental issues or atrocities overseas or lately just south of the border or if such information just more available in 2018. It feels like every time I unlock my phone I am bombarded with content. Someone is constantly trying to sell me something. Whether it's a product, a lifestyle, a political idea or a look at my glamorous lifestyle selfie someone is trying, always. It's exhausting. As someone who really enjoys positive and inspiring content, I find it increasingly difficult to find it. Becoming aware of my social media frustration I have limited my exposure and sought out other forms of media for inspiration. Books and articles are great but not as readily available as the phone in my pocket. In my search, I discovered that there's a podcast out there for everyone. Up until last month, I had never listened to a one. This is probably not news to anyone so let me suggest a personal favourite. The Dirtbag Diaries. They feature stories and interviews with all kind of backcountry folk. The subjects vary from environmentalism, climbing, skiing, kayaking, expeditions, you know, cool stuff and the podcast is available on several platforms including Spotify and their website. Below is a link to the Punk Rockers of Ski Mountaineering podcast. A great story of two skiers on a month long ski traverse of the Cascade mountains. No Sponsors, no media commitments, just adventure on their own terms. Thus the beauty of this podcast. You likely never heard of the trip despite the fact it might spark your next adventure. Put your phone down, listen to the podcast on your next run or doing the dishes. There is positive content out there if you know where to look.
