Garibaldi at Squamish receives environmental approval
Tired of driving all the way from Vancouver to Whistler but Grouse gets too much rain? Garibaldi at squamish might just meet your needs. This proposed ski resort just north of Squamish has been in the works for roughly two decades ( enter Jumbo resort joke ) and has finally been granted it's environmental approval. With the opening of the Sea to sky Gondola many felt it was only a mater of time before the resort would receive it's green light as tourism numbers increased in the sea to sky corridor. The resort would be located north of Squamish on Brohm ridge and Garibaldi mountain. Many fear the resort, if developed will eventually spill into Garibaldi provincial park. Currently Brohm ridge is a popular snowmobile area and the new resort would see these recreational users displaced to other already crowed areas.

The developers claim that the new resort would infuse the province and local economy with over 49 million in tax revenue and create 4000 jobs at build out. The question still remains, can BC sustain another ski resort? What does all this mean for backcountry skiers? Easy access to Garibaldi Mountain and an access point of the Garibali Neve ski traverse. Less traffic than the neighbour up the way (Whilster Blackcomb) and more options are always great when talking ski resorts but is giving up another parcel of wilderness worth the perks of a little less walking?
