Jackson Hole Backcountry Skiing - Grand Teton National Park
The first of three days backcountry skiing in Grand Teton National Park conditions were warm, sunny and very spring like even on the summit of "25' short" which is named for the fact that its just 25' short of 10,000'. We were skiing for the day with a group of journalists and photogs on a Marmot / Polartec trip to test some of their Neoshell and Alpha products in the field—and what better place.
The skin up was about 3,000' and from the summit there were 360° views and multiple decent options. We opted for the descent of a route called Turkey Chute which would take us down a north aspect and into the stunning 'Avalanche Canyon'. Here the snow was still winter like and skiing was excellent, and long.
Skiing down via the "Turkey Chute" required a quick rappel into the route since this was a guided trip and safety always comes first.
