Mt Revelstoke National Park to add a campground
Parks Canada is looking at creating a new campground in the Mt Revelstoke National park. While details on the future expansion project are very limited at this time, Parks plan to create 50 tents, camper, and motorhome sites. The campground would be located where the staff housing complex was located which is just prior to where the current park gates are located today. The campground would resemble other Parks campgrounds featuring showers, flush toilets and a cooking area in the main building. Nothing is set in stone yet but should Parks move forward with the project you maybe be able to make your next Mt Revelstoke reservation as early as 2019.
While this has a positive undertone one must stop and ask if we should be allowing development in our National Parks? While this location has seen development before in the form of staff housing and a campground in it'self is quite a low impact, is allowing any development in our parks a proverbial slippery slope? Some would critic that Parks Canada is in the business of making money and not preserving our country's natural beauty with projects like the Glacier skywalk in Jasper.
Where once was a free viewpoint is now a $32 tourist attraction and that has left a bad taste in the mouths of many Canadians . What are your thoughts on development in our National Parks?
