Video: Rogers Pass Avalanche
On February 14, 2016 Dan Michalchuck and his brother Stephen were caught by a size 2.5 avalanche in Rogers Pass, which was triggered by another group above. Dan was strained through trees and suffered severe internal injuries, including 5 broken ribs, a punctured lung, lacerated liver, a kidney injury, hypothermia and a heart attack, caused by the trauma of the incident. Upon stablizing him, the brothers learned that rescue would not be mobilised until the following morning. With no other options, they dug in and bivvied in a snow cave, hoping that Dan would survive until morning.Thankfully, Dan made it and a year later has shared his story and the video of that fateful avalanche.
"Shit can go sideways real quick in the backcountry, the following is my brother and his experience in an avalanche in Rogers Pass Canada in February of 2016."
These things happen. Play safe out there. Further information on the incident can be found here: http://biglines.com/conditions/avalanche/rogers-pass-avalanche-february-142016-dan-michalchuk/
