Want to get stronger? A little Anti Social? Build your own climbing wall!
As single-digit morning temperatures become the norm and the yellowing of tree leaves start to take hold it's easy to begin daydreaming of the winter to come. For someone living in Revelstoke this is obviously very exciting but also means that the climbing season will soon come to an end. While I am happy to get summer out of the way I can't help be feel saddened by the fact that I will have to go months without climbing and inevitably lose some of the progress made over the summer.
I could do one of two things. Spend the winter skiing and my nights drinking beer ignoring my hang board ( cause that's boring ) and pout that there is no gym in town or I could always build my own indoor wall. Even if you have a climbing gym in your home city it's always fun to go work on a few problems before work or killing time while your watching to storm board on your local mountains webcam.
Metolius has a " how to " guide available for free on home to construct your own epic woody in your home or friends garage. The guide goes over the design process and how to effectively use your available space. It's important to consider what style of climbing you would like to improve at and that your wall can be used for more than one style of climbing.
The Metolius PDF guide is available here.
