Skiing's coming but we're still biking. The Monster, Nelson BC

We took a trip out to Nelson from the coast last week, for a little biking and a little family time.

This is Mike at the snowy top of The Monster, a trail starting from the top of Mt Buchannon. You can drive right to the summit on a good dirt road (at least it looked good compared to some of the ones we've driven on lately..). There was snow on the last km, and it was really super cold and windy up top, but the view was outstanding.

There's a great view of Mt Loki straight across the valley (sidenote: Mt Loki is a fantastic mountain to scramble if you ever get the chance! One of my favorites in the Nelson area.) and a wonderful view of Kootenay Lake.

A quick change out of the puffy, into biking gear, and Mike was off with the dog for the 4000ft descent. He beat the truck down and had an epic ride, taking the older trail down a narrow spine, with the dog on his heels.
